We recognise the value of postgraduate academic qualifications in enhancing professional practice. However, we also believe that academic credentials are not a substitute for practical experience. As such, SAASWIPP membership is limited to practitioners with a minimum of five years of supervised social work practice. ​

When requesting proof of supervised experience, we require evidence that the applicant has received ongoing, structured supervision in the specific field in which they intend to practice privately. ​

The Governance Team (NEB) and the Membership Committee retain the discretion to consider exceptional applications from individuals who may not meet these formal requirements but demonstrate equivalent competence or experience.

All applicants must also be registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
