I have always had a passion for people and enjoyed being around people and helping those in need. I have had a lifelong passion for and relationship with horses. I am constantly inspired by their way of being and their power of presence. Being able to pair my two passions in life to create a place of healing and harmony has been a dream.
I studied at The University of Cape Town and specialised in Clinical Social Work at Honours level. I was then unsure of where to go with my career so I completed a P.G.C.E. (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) as I love working with children. I was then introduced to a modality of therapy that engages both horses and people and immediately trained through Eagala (Equine Assisted Growth & Learning Association). I decided to further my skills and completed a Masters in Clinical Social Work at The University of Cape Town as well as having completed my Advanced Certification in the Eagala model.
I am running my private practice alongside an NGO that I co-founded which provides Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, Therapy and Learning and Skills development. My private practice engages solely in the use of the model of therapy that uses horses to help people experientially whereby the ground based interactions that happen between client and horse create an empowering and narrative approach to healing. I have a passion for trauma and psychiatry as well as working with relational issues such as family, couple and other relationships.
My practice runs through the following NGO:
The Equinox Trust
The Equinox Trust is a non-profit organization, established in 2014, dedicated to making Equine Assisted Empowerment Programmes accessible to communities in need in the Western Cape. Equine Assisted Therapy (E.A.T.) is an innovative approach to professional counselling and skills development which uses horses to help participants address and resolve relational, behavioural, psychological and emotional issues. The participants are from organisations that require/are in need of this kind of psychosocial support.
We believe in the human potential of people to heal themselves. We equip people with skills to make positive choices and changes when faced with challenging circumstances. We empower people to change their lives. Through engaging with horses, disempowered people have a safe space to make choices and determine what they want in their lives.
We have two main areas of focus: funded group programmes and the private sector. Our NGO funded programmes provide support to promote emotional well-being for communities in need. These programmes are for 6 participants per session and vary in duration depending on the needs of the specific group. They are run from various venues around the Cape Peninsula.
Our offerings for the private sector include workplace wellness, group and family sessions, and private therapy and emotional growth & learning for individuals, couples and small groups.
