With over 25 years of practicing social work and counselling in many varied environments, I have the skill-set and direct experience to facilitate healing, growth and relief from psycho-social difficulties. I believe personal well-being is attainable and professional assistance is a tool to assist with healing and growth.
I specialized in Child and Family Welfare in my honors year and worked mostly in this field for the first years of my career. My career began in Kokstad, South Africa at Child Welfare, where I worked primarily with an impoverished community, doing mostly child protection work. In my following position at the Johannesburg Children's Home we took care of children in need of protection and residential care. I worked with abandonment, physical and sexual abuse, neglect, special need, including family conferences and future planning for these children, as well as developing and training in parenting and child care skills. I also worked part time for FAMSA (Family life Center) doing individual counselling, couple counselling, divorce mediation and various training. My career has also taken me abroad to working in the Social Services in London and later with the United Nations Interim government in East Timor for 2 years. This was a challenging but immensely rewarding period being part of the team setting up the department of social services for this newly independent country. Following this I found placement at a corporate employee well-being company (ICAS) where I stayed for twelve years. I started as a telephone counselor and moved to being a case consultant, where I worked in different areas including trauma, risk and managerial consultation.
Currently I run a private practice, full time, for over five years. I have an established practice that runs from an office and therapy room attached to my home in Plumstead, which provides a quite and comfortable space for clients to vent and heal from life's challenges. This has been immensely rewarding. I also do onsite training, debriefings and trauma work.
I am a highly motivated counselor, with an impressive success rate at helping people from all walks of life with many varied psycho-social conditions and problems.
